Motivation is something that comes from deep inside you. It is up to you to motivate yourself. This is the fuel you need to keep on keeping on.
When an experience or a particular goal is new it is extremely easy to become motivated. However, once this newness wears off we often find our levels of motivation shrinking back down to previous levels.
Here are 7 simple ways you can use to instantly motivate yourself:
1. Look for Someone You Can Identify With
If you want to achieve a particular goal it is really helpful to find someone you can relate to who has already accomplished what you are trying to do. This can be anything from health to entrepreneurship. It could even be someone in your own backyard such as a family member or co-worker. When we really look around it is extremely easy to find someone that we can identify with and look up to.
2. Watch an Inspiring Movie
Becoming motivated is largely an emotional response. There are a lot of movies that will help to light the fire you need to become unstoppable. One movie that does it for me is Rocky. I find it truly inspiring that an underdog with a one in a million chance made his way through tons of obstacles by perseverance and hard work. For you it could be a biography, a true story, a documentary or a drama.
3. Think of the Consequences if You Don’t Follow Through
As humans we are often motivated by either desire for reward or fear of punishment. If you want to motivate yourself think of what will happen if you don’t do what you set out to. What will your life be like? How will it make you feel? What will you be missing? These are just a few of the things you need to ask yourself. If the results of not following through are truly unpleasant it will help to keep you on track.
4. Talk with Someone Who is Like Minded
Let’s say that your goal is to lose 30 pounds in 4 months. Who better to talk with than someone else who wants to lose weight too? They will really help to motivate you. Or if you want to find your soul mate seek out some happy couples you know and politely ask them to share their story. In most cases they will be more than happy to do so!
5. Think of Your Reason Why
There is a saying that states if your “why” is strong enough the “how” becomes less of an issue. If you constantly keep the reason you are doing something in front of you it will help to keep you going. A big part of being disciplined is doing something even when you don’t feel like it. I know this is hard but think of the rewards. That is why the reason you are doing something is such a huge factor. You can take it to the next level by writing your reason down and putting it where you can view it each day. Pictures would be even better.
6. Don’t Overdo It
Sometimes when we are eager to do something we go at it too hard and end up becoming discouraged. It is better to do a little bit each day consistently rather than to go ahead full force only to end up quitting. You know the saying, “Inch by inch life is a cinch, yard by yard it is hard.” It is the same way with motivation. Take things one step at a time and keep your levels of motivation consistent.
7. Wait for the Results
Results are the best way to become motivated. Once you see something happening before your eyes you know it is working. That is what will encourage you to keep moving forward. It is like a huge snowball rolling down a hill. The more it rolls the bigger it gets. Likewise, the more you keep pressing on the closer you will become to fulfilling your goal.
I hope these tips gave you some quick ideas you can use to instantly become motivated. Try and apply them to your current goals and watch your efforts and results soar!
