A lot of people are doing yoga these days. Yoga is great for your health, your flexibility, and your state of mind. It helps relax you and can significantly improve your stamina, breathing ability, and core muscular strength. So many people are trying to get into studios these days, but a lot of the time what happens is that we get busy with life’s every day tasks and can not make it to class. Well, the best solution to this problem I have found is to set up a consistent Yoga routine at home. This isn’t difficult and only requires going to classes a few months before you can remember the routine good enough to do it on your own.
Starting Yoga At Home
The first thing you will need is a yoga mat. I bought mine off of Amazon. If you are tall, you might even want to look into getting a longer mat. My mat measures 85 inches in length and is way better than the 72 inch (6 foot mat) I had before. If your head or feet go off the mat, it can significantly take away from the relaxation and benefit of your routine. To go along with the mat, you are going to want a Yoga towel to cover the mat so that your sweat doesn’t make the mat slippery. If the mat is really slippery, you will likely not be able to derive the full benefit out of the poses, as most of your energy will be spent trying to keep from slipping off the mat. The next thing you are going to want to purchase are some Yoga blocks. Yoga blocks are great for doing poses where you need a little more leverage or height, or where you need a little help to really make the pose effective. After you purchase a couple blocks, you are going to want to look into a Yoga strap. I use a Yoga strap for all sort of additional stretching benefit. When I am on my back, I will put the strap around my foot and work my flexibility gradually. Over time, properly stretching with the strap should significantly improve your flexibility.
How To Perform Your Home Yoga Routine
If you have an IPhone or IPod, simply put it in the room where you are doing Yoga and hook it up to some small speakers or play it directly from the device. The best way to get the right music is to use Pandora and turn on the trip hop station, lounge station, or downtempo station. Using Pandora means you don’t have to pick out the music, just turn on the station and start your routine. The next thing you are going to need is a candle. Regular candles work great but I am becoming pretty impressed with the electric candles that turn off and on with a switch. These types of candles can be bought at Costco and look like real candles! The great thing about performing a home Yoga routine is that you can work at your own pace, stretch as long as you like, move through any combinations of poses that you like, and pretty much do anything you want. Follow a similar routine to what you are used to in class. I studied Vinyassa ‘flow’ and it works really well in a home environment.
Conclusion About Home Yoga
Going to a Yoga class on a consistent basis is great when you have the time to do so. When time is scarce, or if you just want to do your own routine, your own way, there is nothing better than picking up a home Yoga routine. And, if you perform the routine really consistently, you will be amazed at how perfectly sculpted your body can become.
